Welcome to the Seekers Annex

My name is Isaac and I will be your guide.

If you are new to meditation, or have just started your spiritual journey. That is ok. You just made the most important step. Taking the first one.

There is no right way or wrong way to go about your journey. That is the beauty of a spiritual journey. You are the one on the journey, and you can take it which ever direction your heart desires. You may even meet up with other souls along the way, or choose to go different directions and any given moment. And that is ok, as well. All paths are equal, and not every path is for everyone. So relax, there are no ways to fail. Only infinite ways to learn and grow on our Journey.

I myself, started out in the traditional sense. I was very militant in my approach. And thought that I had to sit in lotus position, breath in a perfect manner, and have absolutely no thoughts in my mind or I wasn't doing it correctly. In the end, what I found was completely opposite of what I had envisioned. After years of experimentation, what I found was that it doesn't matter how you do it. It only matters that you are doing it. And it doesn't matter how long you are doing it either. That will change as you progress in your own journey.

With that being said, I suggest starting simple. Start with a time frame that is easy for you to fit into your own schedule, and go from there. When I started all those years ago, I had attention deficit disorder, and could only manage to get myself to sit still for 20 minutes, let alone an hour. So pick a time limit that is comfortable for you, even if its only ten minutes a day to sit and quiet your mind. Eventually, you will start to notice the difference it has made in your day to day life. And, when you start noticing the effect it has on you, you will then start to want more of it.

 So lets begin...

 1. Find a quiet space where you can sit comfortably without any distractions. Don't worry about how you are sitting or what position you are in. All we want to do is make sure that we are comfortable. We don't have to make this complicated. Remember, we are doing this to promote peace. So, don't over think it... Just keep it simple, and find a comfortable position. And don't worry if you fall asleep. This tends to happen quite often with some of us in the beginning. And still happens to me occasionally, even after years of experience. Sleep is actually the best form of meditation. So no worries, if it happens we will just try again the next day.

 2. Now that we have found a comfortable position, and we are ready to begin. I want you to close your eyes, and just start to take notice to how your body feels. Are there any areas where your body is tense, or there is any discomfort? If it is something that can be corrected by moving the placement of your body or any limbs, take a moment to adjust yourself until they are comfortable. If if helps, start with your feet and work your way up the body, scanning every section until you get to the top of your head. If you have an area that has physical pain, what I want you to do is place your attention on the location. While your attention is on this location, what we are gonna do is mentally thank our body for letting us know that we might have something that needs to be tended to, and we are gonna mentally send that area some love. We can do this in any way that we wish. You can picture a ball of light in any color that you want to represent healing, and place it in this location of the body. I have one client that pictures a golden flower, and places it in the location. And that work just fine for her. This is the beauty of creation. You get to create whatever works best for you in your own mind. So have fun with it.

 3. Once we have spent some time relaxing the body, and letting go of any unwanted tension. We are gonna bring out attention to our breath. This gives us a point of attention that releases anxiety and helps us keep our mind from wandering. There are many techniques for this was well. But for now, we are just gonna focus on our breath. And again, there is no right or wrong way to breath. You will find that your breathing patterns will naturally change over time with more experience. So let's just keep it simple.

 4. While we are focusing on our breath, I want you to pay attention to the thoughts that arise in your mind. Do not try and force the mind to be silent. Trying to force the mind to be silent will cause unwanted frustration in your practice, and is one of the reasons why many people say they cannot meditate. There is a reason why these thoughts are arising. These thoughts are an indication of things that are triggering a negative response out of you during your day. And this is your higher mind, making you aware of them. So what we want to do is just gently acknowledge them and let them play out. Make a gentle note of the thoughts that cross your mental landscape, and after it passes, place your attention back on your breath and continue on your path. The reason why we are making a note of the thoughts that distract our peace during meditation, is because we are gonna pay attention to these things later. But for now let us just continue focusing on our breath and taking notes of any other that thoughts may arise for the rest of the duration that we have chosen for our practice.

 5. Now that we have concluded the duration of the time we have set aside for our practice. We are gonna take all of the mental notes we just made, and we are gonna start to pay attention and watch for these events playing out in our life. The reason for this is because we are gonna start to catch them before we react. The problem is not the situation that triggered us, its our reaction to the situation. Every situation in our life is actually neutral. They can be looked at from a positive or negative point of view. We are the ones that decide what definition we decide to place on any circumstance. And as we start to notice these events playing out in our life, we notice that a lot of the time it's the same situation playing out in different ways and with totally different people all together. So what we want to do, is watch for these events that trigger us. And, when we see them playing out, or we feel that bit of frustration coming on, we want to stop ourselves in that moment. In that moment we have the ability to say, "you know what, this is about to get really frustrating, but I'm gonna stay in my peace, and I'm not gonna react. It just is what it is, and this moment too shall pass." And what happens is that the universe sees that you are changing your belief system. And what it does is it creates a loop, that you might not see again that day or even that week. But eventually, that same situation will come back around to see if you are still gonna react. Once this happens and you do not react, it will see that you have learned the lesson and you will progress along your path. You might not see the same situation again, but the next time you find something that triggers you will know what to do. And as you continue to watch for the things that upset you, or trigger you throughout your day, and decide not to react, what you will find is that those thoughts will no long come up during your meditations. And over time, you will find that your mind will become a whole lot more quiet and at rest during your practice. And you will start to notice the diffence in your life that your practice creates.

As a final note, I will say that it might not be easy at first. But the more you practice, the more peace you will create in your life. And the more peace you create, the more you will want to practice. I started at 20 minutes a day myself, and eventually got to the point where I couldn't get enough. Until one day I found myself meditating for periods of up to 2 hours in one day. But eventually, you will find that it becomes a natural state of mind that you are able to go in and out of whenever it is needed. And that is the main goal behind all meditation. It is just a tool to help us get back to our natural state of peace that is inherent in us all.
